The Opportunity
Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the position is to provide financial accounting advice / support and delivering customer focused, financial reporting in accordance with relevant legislation and standards and is responsible for the input and maintenance of accurate financial records within the financial database and to ensure stakeholders receive timely financial accounting information.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial accounting including preparation and posting general journals, cashflow, investments, borrowing and leases.
- Complete in a timely matter the daily bank reconciliation and monthly general ledger reconciliations, while ensuring accuracy and integrity of information and investigating and reporting on variances and major discrepancies to the Financial Accountant.
- Assist with the preparation of Business Activity Statement, Fringe Benefit Tax return, and GST compliance.
- Provide financial accounting information to Council’s external auditors in response to audit information requirements to ensure an accurate and timely annual financial audit process and implementation of audit recommendations resulting from audit reports.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or CPA / ICAA or progressing towards is desirable.
- Strong financial and accounting skills, with an understanding of relevant legislation, knowledge of local government practices desirable.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate financial records, reconcile accounts, and prepare high-quality financial reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel, and experience with accounting software and financial databases highly regarded.
- Proven ability to plan, organise, and prioritise work efficiently, meeting deadlines and achieving objectives within available resources.
