The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join Melton City Council’s Housing Services team as a Tenancy & Housing Support Officer. The role is responsible for the tenancy management and administration of Council Housing properties, and providing interventions and supports for people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

The position reports to the Housing Services Team Leader and will liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders, in particular, individuals, families and children who are experiencing homelessness, Council Housing renters, internal and external service providers, and the general community

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide housing assistance and support to young people, individuals and families through holistic case management, ongoing assessment, information and advocacy.
  • Actively engage clients in the development of individual case plans and regular reviews to ensure that the identified goals and outcomes are achieved, including making appropriate referrals to other allied health or community services.
  • Undertake all appropriate actions regarding tenancy management of Council Housing properties in accordance with organisational policies and the provisions of the Residential Tenancies Act.
  • Maintain an effective client record keeping system, including case-note entries via an electronic database system, Specialist Homelessness Information Platform (SHIP)
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with other stakeholders, including allied health services, community agencies, community groups and real estate agencies.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  •  Tertiary qualifications such as social work, welfare work or other relevant human services degree or diploma with some relevant experience or a lesser formal qualification with substantial relevant experience working in the housing/homelessness sector or property/tenancy management sector.
  • Experience and highly developed skills in the provision of case management to young people, individuals, and families who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and/or presented with multiple and complex needs.
  • Experience in delivering tenancy and property management, including knowledge of the Residential Tenancies (Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2018) Transitional Regulations 2021 and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) processes. 
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
