The Opportunity

Join the Community Partnerships and Participation Team in the vital role of Diversity and Intercultural Officer, responsible for the successful facilitation and delivery of community capacity development programs that support Melton City Council’s diverse community members to be active participants in local community building.

Reporting to the Coordinator Community Partnerships and Participation you will deliver initiatives and foster partnerships with relevant community stakeholders to strengthen the community’s capacity to formulate solutions to address issues that impact wellbeing and enhance community life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and representation regarding opportunities and issues in relation to community partnership building, interculturalism and diversity, especially in relation to rapid growth areas and emerging communities.
  • Undertake research and community engagement, develop relevant strategy, contribute to funding submissions and implement a range of initiatives that align with the Council and Wellbeing Plan.
  • Take an assets-based community development approach to leadership and capacity building when developing, coordinating and implementing community activities, programs and services.
  • Evaluate and monitor programs and projects to build an evidence base and determine social impact.
  • Enable and encourage community access and utilisation of Council facilities and programs.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification relevant to the role, such as community development or social sciences and experience in a relevant field, or a lesser qualification and substantial experience in community capacity development and/or social planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of capacity development theory and practice in a local government setting, especially in relation to diverse faith, cultural and LGBTIQA+ communities and their intersectionality.
  • Experience managing collaborative projects that support social cohesion and the development of successful partnerships with community-based organisations.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
