The Opportunity

City of Melton is looking for a motivated and responsive Design Engineer with experience in the design of road and drainage assets using computer design software.

Working within the Engineering Services Unit the successful applicant will primarily be responsible for the generation and management of design plans for Council’s capital works program, which include road construction, drainage, traffic treatments, parking, footpaths and parks in accordance with Council policy, engineering standards and codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare computer aided design plans for Council’s capital works program, which include road construction, drainage, traffic treatments, parking, footpaths, parks and sporting facilities in accordance with Council policy and engineering standards.
  • Prepare engineering computations, estimates and contract specifications for infrastructure projects in accordance with Council policy, engineering standards and codes of practice.
  • Project manage projects to ensure all approvals, reports, permits, and consultation are obtained and completed for delivery of design projects. Obtain any ancillaries to projects such as arranging land surveys, service proving, geotechnical reports, arborist reports, biodiversity assessments, CHMP etc.
  • Manage consultants engaged to undertake civil design projects or investigations that form part of the annual capital works program which includes procurement, evaluation and contract administration in accordance with Council’s Procurement Policy.
  • Respond positively and punctually within specified timelines to customer enquiries, requests and adhere to the performance standards adopted in the Customer Service Charter.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering with some relevant experience, or a lesser formal qualification with substantial relevant experience.
  • Registered Civil Engineer in Victoria or all necessary qualifications and experience to obtain registered status; or ability to obtain Registration once eligible.
  • Experience in design of civil engineering projects using computer design software.
  • Understanding of engineering design and construction principles and techniques in relation to road and drainage assets
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
