The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Open Space Planner in the City Strategy Department. You will report to the Coordinator of Open Space Planning and will be responsible for managing and providing guidance on the preparation, assessment, and implementation of plans, strategic documents, and other projects that require open space planning/ landscape architecture expertise.
You will have a key role in the Open Space Planning team, guiding public realm and open space development, with the capacity to work within multi-disciplinary teams and plan for and facilitate effective community and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply theoretical or scientific principles to prepare and review plans, strategies, and policies to guide open space planning, minor and major capital works projects, and ensure quality future development outcomes in the public realm and public space that will benefit the municipal community.
- Provide formal input into formulation of policy positions for Council adoption with respect to open space policy, and public realm improvements and provide advice to Council on open space planning-related issues.
- Develop effective relationships with community groups and stakeholders to guide, support and facilitate active engagement in open space issues.
- Actively and positively contribute to cross-departmental projects to provide open space planning advice and recommendations for public realm and public space improvements across the organisation.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Recreation Planning or related discipline with some relevant experience aligned with open space or land use planning or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated project management skills including timeframe management, setting priorities, planning, and managing workloads to complete projects within the prescribed budget.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of parks and open space planning and development and an appreciation of the long-term needs of growth area communities.
- Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency with computer design software (AutoCAD, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop).
- Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
