The Opportunity
Council is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individual who is seeking an opportunity to work within the Community Safety Department of Melton City Council.
This position will report to the Pound Services Team Leader and assist in the day-to-day operation of our pound facility in accordance with relevant legislation and codes of practice in conjunction with Council’s policies and procedures. The successful applicant will be responsible to carry out all duties associated with our pound facility.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance, advice and assistance to residents, ratepayers and visitors in relation to animal matters
- Conduct prompt appropriate responses in relation to customer enquiries.
- Accurately record information onto Council’s systems daily.
- Impound domestic animals when directly presented by the public.
- Handling administrative tasks such as, registration, animal releases, cash handling, payment processing, adoptions, fostering, and all related rescue/shelter procedures with corresponding paperwork.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Certificate in Animal Care or associated discipline or equivalent TAFE qualification and/or equivalent level of relevant experience.
- Possess a good understanding of domestic animal behaviour and husbandry practices.
- Considerable knowledge of relevant Codes of Practice and legislation relating to Domestic Animals and livestock.
- Have experience relating to the care, cleaning, feeding and hygiene of domestic animals.
- Possess good communication, customer service and general administration skills.
- Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
