The Opportunity
Melton City Council is searching for an exceptional leader to join us as our Coordinator Parks and Open Space.
This is an exciting and diverse opportunity overseeing high profile parks and open space services that are important to our growing community and where no two days are the same.
Reporting to the Manager Operations and leading a team of 14, this role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of Council’s growing number of parks, trees and sportsgrounds, delivering minor capital works projects and contributing to the Council’s broader strategic goals in managing our parks and open spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Providing strong leadership to the Parks and Open Space team including mentoring, team building and ensuring service delivery in line with Council’s established strategies, plans, policies, procedures and budgets.
- Overseeing major maintenance contracts for parks and open space, trees and sportsgrounds maintenance including monitoring compliance and performance.
- Developing and coordinating recurrent maintenance and minor capital works programs related to the parks and open space portfolio.
- Preparing and submitting Council’s annual Vegetation Management Plan (Electric Line Clearance Program) to the Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector.
- Coordinate Council’s asset management activities for open space assets and assist in the development and review of strategic documentation in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Perform the role as one of Council’s Deputy Municipal Emergency Management Officers (MEMO) including participation in a roster system for the on-call MEMO function.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Extensive leadership experience leading large, multi-disciplinary teams, preferably in an operational environment.
- A tertiary qualification in horticulture, arboriculture, turf management or nature resource management or a related discipline, or extensive relevant experience in managing public open space.
- Proven experience in developing, procuring and managing large service-based contracts.
- Current Victorian drivers licence.
