Band 6 - Salary Range $97,926 to $106,637 per annum + 12% Super + ADO

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated individual within the City Growth and Development department. This role provides a unique opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Planning Enforcement Officer to contribute to the compliance and safety of one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia.

You will benefit from exposure to a wide variety of enforcement challenges; ranging from residential uses, to industrial, to greenfield subdivision and everything in between. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team who create an enjoyable working environment.

Reporting to the Coordinator Planning Support Services, you will engage with a wide range of teams across council to ensure a consistent approach to planning compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate planning complaints efficiently and inspect properties to check compliance with planning permit conditions, the Melton City Council Planning Scheme and relevant legislation.  
  • Provide professional and/or specialist technical services and or support to complete assignments or projects in consultation with other employees.
  • Provide specialist advice to the planning team and other teams across council.
  • Preparation of submissions to the Magistrates Court or VCAT proceedings as required.
  • Prepare, review and update reports and correspondence as required.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualification with relevant experience in Planning, Law Enforcement or Local Government Enforcement, or lesser formal qualification with extensive experience in local law enforcement.  
  • Experience in areas of investigation and enforcement, with an understanding of statutory town planning process.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, manage time, to set work priorities and achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and assess a range of planning investigation and enforcement matters and ensure matters are followed up and that the appropriate action is taken.
  • Ability to participate and contribute to process improvement within the planning enforcement team.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
